Brussels, 19/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - A summary report on research into violent radicalisation will be submitted to the Commission in June at the latest. The Commission had decided on 25 April to set up an expert group responsible for advising it on action to be taken to counter violent radicalisation. The group, composed of twenty members at most appointed for one year, is to gather the expertise of its members in order to advise the Commission but also to exchange technical proficiency with networks, institutes or bodies of the EU, in Member States, third countries and international organisations. In its 2005 communication on the recruitment of terrorist groups and combating factors that contribute to violent radicalisation, the Commission had acknowledged the fact that it needed to call on specialist know-how for developing its policy in this field.
