Brussels, 26/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - In his initial comments on the results of the Spring Summit, the president of the European Parliament, Josep Borrell, mainly welcomed the fact that the conclusions of the European Council had noted the Commission's intention to present a revised version of the services directive in line with the compromise reached by the European Parliament at first reading, during its vote on the Gebhardt report (see EUROPE 9133). In his view, this means that the effort made with a view to proposing a balanced text able to develop a single services market without jeopardising the social systems of Member States may be followed by the two other institutions and an agreement acceptable to all may be reached (for President Borrell's speech at the summit, see EUROPE 9159).
