24/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of the Spring Summit, the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AMCHAM) welcomed the discussion between EU Heads of State and Government on a future European energy policy and especially “their focus on the need to actively promote measures aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in a wide variety of fields”. AMCHAM EU stresses that directives already adopted or about to be adopted should be correctly implemented. It also stresses the need to create an adequate regulatory framework to provide incentives and attractive financing mechanisms to promote energy efficiency, without which energy savings targets would be extremely difficult to be achieved”. The American Chamber of Commerce also recalls that “the energy market is a global one” and that international cooperation in the energy efficiency field is essential, in particular with the United States, Japan, Korea, China and India.
