24/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - Interviewed by Libération of 24 March on the Contrat de première embauche (CPE) (first employment contract) in France, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker commented that the Lisbon Agenda is not a precarious contract. On the contrary, he said, it focuses on striking a balance between economic reform, social cohesion and sustainable development. Mr Juncker believes that making the CDI (contract of unlimited duration) an “exception, an atypical thing, is a road that takes us straight into the wall”. He said “if my father, who was a worker in the steel industry” had had a contract that was renewable every six months “I would never have been able to study law in Strasbourg”.
