Brussels, 13/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - After an exchange of views on progress in the Partnership for Growth and Jobs, a year after the relaunch of the Lisbon Strategy, the Competitiveness Council adopted its contribution to the Spring European Council on 23-24 March on the basis of a document prepared by the Austrian presidency, which raises key questions on improving European competitiveness. The contribution of the Competitiveness Council focuses on two priority action areas: the need to relate the Union's productive potential, particularly for SMEs; the necessity of more investment in knowledge and innovation. At the request of the Commissioner for Industry, Günter Verheugen, the text adopted by the Council mentions the need to enhance copyright protection.
