Brussels, 31/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - Gerrit Zalm, Dutch Finance Minister, is to host a conference on the financing of terrorism on 15 and 16 March in The Hague. It will provide an opportunity for stock to be taken of the progress made in combating terrorism financing and to make proposals to ensure improvement in three areas: cooperation between national intelligence authorities, information exchange between public and private sectors and financial institutions, and improved implementation of international standards by developing countries.
Participants at the debates will include Kader Asmal, Chair of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Money Laundering, Gijs de Vries, European Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Pedro Solbes Spanish Finance Minister, and Robert Kimmitt, US Treasury Deputy Secretary.
