Brussels, 31/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - “The regional perspective is highly important for the success of any future European maritime policy” to “meet specific maritime needs of the Union's coastal areas”, Joe Borg said recently. The European Fisheries Commissioner may recall this at the seminar on “Europe of the Sea: regions at the heart of the Green Paper” organised in Brest on 17 February by the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) with the participation of the maritime regions: Aquitaine, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Nord-Pas de Calais, Crete, Lisbon and Tagus Valley, the Azores, Stockholm, Aarhus, Telemark, Shetland and Cornwall. The seminar will be attended, in particular, by CPMR President Claudio Martini (at the head of the Tuscany region) and Jean-Yves Le Drian, President of the Brittany Regional Council.
