11/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - While confirming to the Press on Wednesday that Germany had not yet submitted its stability programme, Joaquin Almunia stated that the Commission would reveal what was to happen in the excessive deficit procedure against Berlin in early February; He felt that Germany's corrective measures were not sufficient (see EUROPE 9070) but refused to say if he would put forward new recommendations at this stage of the procedure (104§7) or move to another stage (108§8 and 9). While awaiting the latest figures from Berlin, Mr Almunia gave a provisional, general view. He felt that there was real will on the part of the German authorities to reduce the deficit to under 3% before 2007.
