19/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - As part of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU, Volkshilfe Österreich (People's Aid of Austria), in collaboration with Solidar, is to hold a campaign entitled "Save Our Social Europe", and will hold a conference in Vienna on 2 and 3 February on the subject " A Social Europe- a Vision for the Future". Michael Häupl (PES, Austria), Mayor of Vienna and member of the Committee of the Regions, will open the work, which will also be attended by, amongst others, Anne-Marie Sigmund, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and Maria Joao Rodrigues, President of the "Social Sciences" group of advisers to the Commission and one of the originators of the Lisbon strategy. Those taking part in the meeting- representatives of NGOs, unions, political leaders and people from the world of academia- will meet for discussion workshops on the subject of poverty, employment and education, healthcare and the financial viability of European social assistance models (for more information, see http://www.solidar.org ).
