Brussels, 07/12/2005 (Agence Europe) -After the appointment of David Cameron as the new leader of the Tories, the member of the European Parliament Chris Davies, British Liberal Democrat, has asked whether Mr Cameron will keep his promise of bringing the British Conservatives out of the EPP-ED group at the European Parliament. "If he pursues his campaign promise, he risks sending his MEPs to the European political backwater, forcing them to unite with many of Europe's misfits and malcontents", said Mr Davies in a press release. The MEPs of the Conservative Party are, in fact, divided on the issue: some of them, such as Timothy Kirkhope, are vigorously opposed to withdrawing from the EPP-ED, and others are already preparing to make new alliances, not least Daniel Hannan, who held a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, with Eurosceptics from some 30 countries, on setting up an Alliance for an Open Europe. Those taking part in the meeting chose Czech President Vaclav Klaus as their leader.
