British pub chain PUNCH TAVERNS has become the UK's biggest pub operator, with 9,500 outlets across the country, after it agreed to buy SPIRIT (£1.319 bn turnover in 2004) for £2.68 bn. PUNCH previously had 8200 pubs. PUNCH TAVERNS will sell 203 of its own pubs to ADMIRAL TAVERNS for £40 mil.
