Brussels, 05/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - "The members of industry who are candidates for the Galileo concession have agreed for the seat of the concession-holder to be established in Toulouse, as part of a global agreement on the Galileo installations, concluded under the aegis of Karel van Miert", announced Philippe Douste-Blazy, French Foreign Minister and president of Grand Toulouse. The agreement on the locations for the terrestrial infrastructure sites of the future European radio-navigation by satellite system is responsible for deciding whether Galileo sites will be. If Toulouse is to host the headquarters of the concession-holder, Germany will be getting a satellite monitoring centre (Oberpfaffenhofen in Bavaria), Spain will be hosting a further subsidiary satellite control centre and a services centre for rescue operations, Italy will have a satellite control centre and London closes the market with a technical maintenance centre. The agreement put together by the former European Commissioner for Competition comes on the eve of the launch of the first satellite, which will play a test role for the rest of the constellation. It will allow the next phase to get underway, particularly as the eight companies managing the concession have committed to form a single entity within a maximum of three weeks.
