Brussels, 09/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission adopted a draft plan to earmark EUR 92.9 million from the EU Solidarity Fund from the 2005 budget to help four Member States (Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) after the violent storm damage of 8 January 2005. The Commission will present a Rectifying Budget proposal to include specific commitment credits for each country in question in the 2005 budget. The Commission estimates the damage in Sweden to be EUR 2.29 bn, EUR 192.59 million for Latvia, EUR 47.86 mil for Estonia and EUR 15.15 million for Lithuania. The 7 November inter-institutional agreement allows the EU Solidarity Fund to be mobilised for up to EUR 1 billion in total per year.
