02/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - CDU MEP Hartmut Nassauer believes recent statements by Turkish Foreign Minister Gul are unacceptable. Gul described the idea of 'privileged partnership' as 'illegitimate and immoral'. The CDU/CSU mooted the idea of privileged partnership as an alternative for Turkey joining the EU. Nassauer contrasted Gul's behaviour with that of the Croatian government after the March 2005 decision to suspend the launch of Croatia's accession negotiations with the EU. Unlike Turkey, said Nassauer in a press release, Croatia meets all the conditions, but Zagreb avoided any rhetoric about the postponement.
