13/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - Turkey's head of negotiations for the country's accession to the EU, Ali Babacan reiterated on Tuesday to the EP's foreign affairs committee that the objective of the discussions due to begin on 3 October had to be accession. He explained that, “any formula other than full membership of the EU would be unacceptable”. Turkey's accession to the EU would make it a “global power”, he explained. We also learned that the Greek Prime Minister Costas Caramanlis would probably be going to Ankara on 22/23 August for an official visit, the first in almost 50 years.
