Strasbourg, 12/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday in Strasbourg, the European Parliament gave its green light for signing the agreement between the EU and the Swiss Confederation on the country's participation in the European Environment Agency (EEA based in Copenhagen) and the European network on information and observations in the to environment. The resolution in this sense, adopted by the plenary session by an overwhelming majority (601 votes for, 4 against, with 3 abstentions), follows the recommendation of rapporteur, Karl-Heinz Florenz (EPP-ED, Germany), who chaired the environment parliamentary committee. Parliament's approval of the agreement was required in a consultative capacity. The decision to conclude the agreement lies with the Council of the EU.
