ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) smart cards

GEMPLUS (net profits of 7.2 million EUR in the first quarter of 2005), the world leader in smart cards, is to acquire the Finnish SETEC for 30 million EUR and 19 million GEMPLUS shares. The contract also provides for an additional payment not exceeding 30 million EUR depending on the order book as it stood at the end of 2005.
