The British VODAFONE has bought the stakes of the Canadian company TIW- TELESYSTEM INTERNATIONAL WIRELESS in the mobile operators MOBIFON of Romania (turnover of 543 million EUR in 2004 with 4.9 million clients) and the Czech OSKAR MOBIL (turnover of 415 million EUR in 2004 with 1.8 million clients) for 4.4 billion dollars (including 950 million EUR of debts). VODAFONE, which already held 20.1% of MOBIFON, will now wholly own both operators.
