THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/georgia

03/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana met on Thursday with the Georgian Minister for Foreign Affairs Salomé Zurabisvili, who informed him on the recent high level contacts between Georgia and Russia and efforts being made by the government in Tbilisi to step-up relations with Moscow. Mr Solana welcomed this: “An improved climate between Georgia and Russia would help to find solutions to the ongoing problems in the region”, he said. The situation on the Russo-Georgian border after the expiry of the OSCE observation mission was also mentioned. The EU is still considering the ways in which it could contribute to the stability of this border, but no decision has yet been taken, Mr Solana explained. In the meantime, the EU supports the OSCE's project to train Georgian border guards.
