Commission hopes to develop relations with national parliaments

Brussels, 18/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission hopes to develop its relations with national parliaments and make them more familiar with its policies in the Member States. This was stated in a press release in which it announces several short term actions. Thus, Commission Vice-President Margot Wallström will visit all national parliaments and will attend the meetings of Chairpersons of European Committees in National Parliaments (COSAC). Furthermore, all Commissioners as well as Commission officials should strive to be accessible and prepared to assist national parliament committees in their inquiries into EU policy. Ms Wallström specifies in a press release that these are aims to be implemented this year. “The long term priorities will be defined together with all national parliaments. The outcome of the Constitution ratification process will of course have to be taken into due account”, the Commissioner said.
