Brussels, 28/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised plans to create a joint company between the French aeronautical construction company Airbus and the Dutch group SITA, which provides information and communication applications and infrastructures to the air transport sector. SITA will be the majority holder and will take over the management of the new entity, to be known as OnAir. According to the Commission, the operation will have no serious repercussions on competition in the markets for in-flight telephony, SMS messaging services, electronic mail and instant messaging, on which SITA is already active, or in the possible emerging markets for GSM onboard and in-flight VPN and Internet access. On these, the Commission has stated that there was no risk of foreclosure for third party service and equipment providers, and for the markets on which SITA is present, it feels that the new entity will be faced with many existing or potential competitors.
