Brussels, 20/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - British General David Leakey, Commander of the EU-led EUFOR mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina, presented a first report on transition between the NATO-led SFOR mission to EUFOR, as well as on the first activities conducted by the latter. Handover, which took place on 2 December, was smooth, thanks to NATO support, General Leakey said. EUFOR has, moreover, already carried out first operations to hunt down fugitive war criminals, as can be seen by the closure of Bosnian military installations suspected of being used as hideouts. General Leakey also assured that the EU mission, the international community's representative on the ground, Paddy Ashdown, and the different EU instruments are working in close cooperation to ensure stability and security in the country where the economic situation is still difficult and inter-ethnic tension persists (Source our publication Atlantic News).
