11/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - According to the German daily newspaper Handelsblatt, the ECB is to register new losses of at least a billion EUR in 2004. If these figures are confirmed, this will be the second consecutive loss for the Frankfurt-based institution, after a loss of 477 million in 2003, the newspaper highlights in its Monday edition. The factors in these poor results are said to be linked to the fall in value of the dollar, a currency in which the majority of the ECB's assets are denominated, changes related to the evaluation of assets and representative goods and a fall in interest revenue. The ECB, which refused to comment on these allegations, will not publish its financial results until 18 March. The Council of Governors will meet on Thursday, for its first decision on rates of 2005.
