10/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The decision of the Council to issue European citizens with biometric passports appeared in Official Journal L 385 on 29 December. Member States in the next 18 months will have to issue their nationals with a photograph containing a microchip. Over the next three years Member States will have to provide digital prints contained in the same system. The Council adopted this regulation on 13 December.
