Advocate General Jacobs says prohibition of using Tokai to describe Italian wines will be lawful in March 2007

Luxembourg, 28/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - Advocate General Jacobs has ruled that the prohibition on the use of the Italian grape variety name Tocai from March 2007 onwards, arising from the Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Hungary is lawful. In a press release, Jacobs notes that '"Tokaj" constitutes a geographical indication in Hungary but "Tocai" is not an Italian geographical indication, but a grape variety and as such cannot benefit from the protection granted...
