Brussels, 14/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - During his press conference with Leyla Zana (see below), EP president Josep Borrell indicated that the EP Office had condemned the negationist ideas "on the extermination of the Jews in the gas chambers" expressed Tuesday by Front National MEP Bruno Gollnisch. Borrell said that Gollnisch would have to say what he said in court but that parliament was now keen to reaffirm that it would "always" condemn the extermination of the Jews by the Nazis.
At the beginning of Thursday's plenary session French Socialist Bernard Poignant denounced Gollnisch's ideas who claimed that, " no serious politicians adheres entirely to the conclusions of the Nuremberg Trials. I do not challenge the existence of concentration camps but the number of deaths. This is a subject of debate for politicians. As for the existence of gas chambers, historians will have to decide".
