24/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - Caroline Lucas and Jean Lambert, British Greens/EFA MEPs at the European Parliament, organised a seminar recently at the European Parliament attended by other MEPs, teachers, schoolgirls, psychiatrists and human rights activists on the right to wear conspicuous religious symbols. A press release quotes Caroline Lucas that the seminar discussed 'ways of preventing the French ban from spreading to other EU states' (ban on the wearing of Muslim headscarves at school). Lucas added: 'Preventing the spread of populist Islamophobia in the EU has never been more urgent'.
