03/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - Taking advantage of the fact that the Commission was presenting its decision on the Sellafield issue (see above), and referring to the recent price rises and fluctuations on oil markets, the European Commissioner for Energy, Loyola de Palacio, said these fluctuations "again show that, in addition to the structural reasons (mainly growth in China and India) and political difficulties (in Venezuela and Nigeria, …), there is a game of speculation that shows lack of transparency on the oil market". The Commission Vice-President recalled once more the "need for greater coordination in the management of strategic oil stocks" within the European Union.
