Brussels, 26/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - The WEU Assembly is organising for 16 and 17 September in Enschede in the Netherlands a conference on "Cooperation on defence systems procurement in Europe". The first session will focus on strengthening European capabilities, with General Roman Iwaskiewicz, Deputy National Armaments Director of Poland, and General Herreweghe, Deputy Director General, EU Military Staff. A second session will be on the European Defence Agency (EDA) with its Director, Nicholas Witney, Deputy Director for Cooperation and Industrial Affairs of the French National Armaments Procurement Agency Nicolas Maffert, and Herbet von Bose for the Directorate General for Research at the European Commission. At a third session on the industrial and technological base of European defence, there will be participants from industry including A. J. H. M. Peels (Thales), Bill Giles (British Aerospace), Scott Harris (Lockheed Martin) and Denis Verret (EADS). For further information: press@assembly.weu.int
