Brussels, 24/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, the current Education, Culture and Audiovisual Policy European Commissioner, Viviane Reding, who will become Information Society and Media Commissioner in the Barroso Commission, explains that she had held long discussions with the President of the Commission José Manuel Durao Barroso and had been given the portfolio she wanted. It has a strong economic dimension as well as an important citizenship dimension, she explained. Reding added that she was in the process of preparing her hearing at the European Parliament and did not want to make any comment on her priorities for the prospective portfolio.
