Brussels, 30/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved a grant of 62 million euros for a specific budgetary aid project for Ghana, a member of the ACP states group (Africa/Caribbean/Pacific). The programme is part of the national poverty-reduction strategy which aims to bring annual growth up to 5%, reduce the percentage of the population living in poverty from 39% to 32%, improve infrastructures and broaden access to primary healthcare services and basic education services, and enhance the efficiency of the public sector and the transparency of public institutions. It was drawn up in close cooperation with several partners including the World Bank and the development agencies of several member states (Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom) and will be implemented up to the end of 2006.
