National Indicative Programme with EUR 275 million budget is signed with Rabat

Brussels, 19.07.2004 (Agence Europe) - In parallel to the consultations with Morocco on the “national action plan” in the context of “neighbour” policy, which he discussed with Morocco's Prime Minister Driss Jettou, Economy Minister Fat'hallah Oualalou, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Taieb Fassi Fehri and their colleagues from Finance and Home Affairs, the Director General for External Relations, Eneko Landaburu, signed in Rabat the programme for funding projects in that country. The programme will be allocated EUR 275 million covering the period 2005/2006. The indicative programme provides for the commitment of MEDA resources mainly for investment in social sectors, to the benefit of companies (SMEs) and in all economic areas that can lead to greater growth. Priorities include the promotion of environmentally-friendly practices, mainly in waste water treatment, and also support for the civil society (NGOs), mainly for the promotion of human rights and democracy. In this field, a “political dialogue” session (general debate on the situation in the country and region) was held on 28 June in Rabat with the participation of the EU senior officials, from the outgoing Irish Presidency and the current Dutch EU Presidency.
