02/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is holding a public hearing on Monday 5 July on the "coexistence of genetically modified crops and conventionally and organic crops". This hearing, which will be attended by a number of experts, will go towards an opinion on the subject, to be adopted in the autumn, and for which the rapporteur will be the federal vice-president of the German rural agricultural community Bernd Voss. The EP's position will be presented by Friedrich-Wilhelm Graefe zu Baringdorf, a re-elected MEP and EP rapporteur on the subject. Discussions will focus essentially on the problem of source of contamination, prevention and control measures, consumer demands, the impact on prices, and market access.
