Amnesty International calls on EU to end its "embarrassing silence" on human rights violations in "war on terrorism" and in Iraq

Brussels, 24/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - In view of the EU/US summit on 26 June, Amnesty International has written an open letter to the Irish presidency requesting that the EU ends its "embarrassing silence in the face of the United State's ongoing breaches of fundamental human rights and humanitarian law principles in the pursuit of its 'war on terror' in Iraq".
