24/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The PostEurop Customer Forum 2004, which was held in Brussels in May, looked at Opportunities for postal customers in the new, enlarged Europe, according to a press release, which underlined that enlargement will bring about greater openness of the postal market to competition from the new Member States. According to the press release, the segments which offer the greatest prospects are direct mail, mail order, and periodicals. At the forum, representatives of the postal services of three new Member States, Poland, Latvia and Slovenia, unfolded their development plans, and representatives of TPG in the Netherlands and Poste Italiane explained their efforts, in terms especially of direct marketing. Aad Weening of the European Mail Order and Distance Selling Trade Association and Alastair Tempest from the European Federation of Direct Marketing stressed the importance of close co-operation between postal operators, and Kristoffer Hammer from the European Advertising Standards Alliance emphasised the need for effective protection against "direct mail rogue traders", said the press release.
