27/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 24 May, the European Commission adopted a proposal to reduce by a month the duration of the summer ban on cod fishing in the Baltic sea. In line with a recent recommendation by the International Baltic Sea Fishery Commission (IBSFC), the ban will now cover 15 June to 15 August 2004 inclusive, as opposed to 1 June to 31 August 2004 provided for in the December 2003 regulation on fishing quotas for 2004.
