Brussels, 27/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - In a response to the devastating weather in the Caribbean (the island of Hispaniola) the European Commission will soon be allocating up to EUR 2 million in humanitarian aid for providing up to EUR 2 million in humanitarian aid for providing drinking water, shelter and food. Jean-Charles Kellermann Kingombe spokes-person for humanitarian aid Commissioner Poul Nielson said that the funding decision was being prepared. ECHO, the Community's humanitarian aid office is present in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti and is now assessing what needs to be done, together with other donors.
