According to UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) figures, foreign direct investment in Germany reached EUR 23,990 million in 2002, a rise of 50% compared to the previous year. The country is thus in fourth place among the top FDI destinations worldwide. The EU, and especially the United Kingdom, Belgium and Luxembourg, is Germany's largest partner for both inflows and outflows. The US has also been among the top recipients of Germany's outflows in recent years, except in 2002. Finland, also, enjoyed major growth in foreign investment flows onto its territory in 2002, with practically 50% growth to EUR 4.172 million. Finnish outflows on the other hand fell slightly. Sweden is its preferred partner, accounting for over 70% of inflows and outflows in 2002.
