Strasbourg, 02/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - Adopting on Wednesday the report by German Christian Democrat Alexander Radwan on the draft ergualtion on the mangemetn structures for the EU satellite navigation programme Galileo (consultation), the European Parliament adopted amendments propsing that: - the Surveillance Authority certifies the Galileo system and its components; - there should be transparent recruitment procedures at the Surveillance Authroity; the Authority's board should have 12 members, four appoited by the Commission and eight by the Council (rather than 6 each as foreeseen by the Commission) and that the EP can appoint an observer to attend the board's meetings; and the Authority's headquarters should be located close to the Galileo parties' headquarters. The EP also believes that in the event of delays in setting up the Surveillance Authority, the Galileo joint company should sign contracts as long as it has been authorised to do so by the Commission and the Council. The EP also adopted amendments to clarifty measures on transferring frequency authorisations to the Surveillance Authority by the Member States.
