Faced with insufficient budgetary means, EU would perhaps do better and cut down its policies, says Klaus

Brussels, 04/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus, said on Thursday that the EU had an insufficient budget for pursuing and achieving its policies and should, as a consequence, revise its political ambitions (Klaus is a Euro-sceptic) or increase its funding. Addressing the press in an interview in Brussels, with the president of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, Klaus said that in his opinion, there was some asymmetry between the level of European integration sought after and the budgetary envelope available. Mr Klaus asserted that, "I think we both have the feeling that the budgetary and 'real sides' of the European Commission must be put together into balance. Maybe if we don't have more money we should go slower on the political issues of the European Union".
