23/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The EP foreign affairs committee has adopted the report by Danish Liberal Ole Andreas on the Guantanamo Bay prisoners who having been accused of war crimes following the attacks of 11 September are due to be tried by ad hoc military tribunals. MEPs are requesting that these courts respect international legal standards in force, and underlines that EU/USA relations are "invaluable and irreplaceable…which could be a formidable force for well being in the world…on the condition that human rights …are clearly respected". Graham Watson welcomed the release of five British prisoners from Guantanamo Bay but said that London should not go it alone and should work with other EU countries to assist European prisoners in Guantanamo.
