02/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - MEP Anne Marie Isler Béguin (Green, France) has said in a press release that she was "present at the meeting of the Abbé Pierre and his organisation Emmaüs in Trocadéro, Paris, on 1 February, to celebrate the appeal" launched by the Abbé Pierre in 1954 to help the homeless. Ms Isler Béguin drew up a written statement, which she opened up to the signatures of all MEPs for three months, "criticising the European institutions" about the central role of people's rights to work, health and housing, and the "promotion of a new European spirit of humanism and solidarity".
