Brussels, 22/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday the Commission authorised the last part of the support measures aiming at promoting pollution control and climate protection in the energy and transport sector in Saxony (Germany). This system enables transport companies in Saxony to benefit from financial support for the acquisition of low noise and low emissions busses, of diesel cars and locomotives and for the drawing up of plans to ensure the environmentally efficient use of the subsidised vehicles. The scheme will be in force until 2006 with a total budget of € 17, 8 million and will be organised in several sub-programmes: energy saving, the use of renewable energies, the improvement of the environmental sustainability of installations, the acquisition of low noise and low emissions busses and the establishment of plans for sound emissions and noise reduction. Today's decision is only related to the last of these sub-programmes as the rest of them have already been approved by the Commission decision of 29 May 2002.
