Reinforced transatlantic business dialogue

Brussels, 21/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Presidents of European and American Chambers of Commerce confirmed this week that they intend to step up transatlantic dialogue and business relations. During a meeting in Vienna on Monday, Christoph Leitl of Eurochambres and Thomas J. Donohue of Amcham agreed upon strategies to be undertaken to this end in several fields of common interest, including notably the way to proceed against counterfeiting under the WTO, and intensifying their co-operation in third areas, such as the Middle East. The Presidents also discussed the issue of the right balance between the need for security measures in the United States, and the facilitation of trade.

Mr Leitl and Mr Donohue will now get preparations underway for a joint event to take place on the sidelines of the forthcoming transatlantic summit (end of June in Dublin), and for the organisation of a delegation of representatives of business circles to the customs and trade authorities in Washington, according to a press release.
