20/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Greek Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos said, on Monday, he was confident about the eventual return to Greece of the Parthenon Marbles currently being held at the British Museum in London, despite recent statements to the contrary by the Museum's director, it was reported by Greek press agency ANA. Mr Venizelos, the agency reports, is tabling on the upcoming meeting between the Greek and British Foreign Ministers, George Papandreou and Jack Straw, when the question will be brought up again. Almost 80% of British public opinion is in favour of returning the sculptures to the Parthenon in Athens, Mr Venizelos said in Thessaloniki, where he was taking part in preparations for the Olympic Games.
