Summit of presidents from parliamentary groups

Brussels, 12/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - During their second summit on 10-11 November in Brussels, the Presidents of the EPP-ED parliamentary groups at the European Parliament and the national parliaments of the enlarged Europe (with 25 members), under the Presidency of Hans-Gert Pöttering and in the presence of the President of the EU Council, Franco Frattini, discussed preparations of the Congress of the European Popular Party of 5-6 February 2004 in Brussels (in view of the June elections) and the IGC on the constitutional treaty.

A press statement indicated that European Commissioner Michel Barnier, former "Convention Member" took part in the debate on the Intergovernmental conference, reiterating his fear that the negotiations would get bogged down if a clear political will did not develop in the next few weeks.
