Council approves convening of IGC but does not reach clear conclusions on number of EP observers and list of subjects to be covered

Brussels, 29/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the General Affairs Council formally approved the convening of the Intergovernmental Conference to be held on 4 October in Rome.

The discussion on the presence of observers from the European Parliament at the IGC was not conclusive. Council President Franco Frattini felt there was consensus on having two EP observers at IGC ministerial meetings but did not rule out the fact that there could be three depending on what was being discussed...
