07/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - A study carried out by the Centrum für angewandte Politikforschung in Munich, signed by Franco Algieri, Janis Emmanouilidis and Roman Maruhn, envisages five scenarios for the European Union. The first is called Titanic and corresponds to a real reduction in integration. The second involves a hard integrated core surrounded by a cooperation circle with renationalisation of some policies. The third is based on progress towards a closer union based on the Monnet method. With an "area open to gravitation", the authors describe a Union in which integration increases, encouraged by many different enhanced examples of cooperation. The scenario of the "European Superpower" corresponds to the highest degree of integration, marrying enlargement and a deepening of the Union even beyond the geographical borders of Europe (contact: capoffice@lrz.uni-muenchen.de or http://www.cap.uni-muenchen.de ).
