CITIGROUP, the number one for financial services worldwide, has acquired the credit card business of the US distribution group, SEARS, which will make $6 billion from the sale. It thus acquires the eighth largest portfolio of credit cards in the United States, that is, 59 million accounts including 25 million in assets, with $29 billion available in amounts outstanding.
