Australia reacts strongly to EP vote

Brussels /Sydney, 04/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The main farming lobby of Australia (which is one of the countries that criticise, in Geneva, the European moratorium on genetically modified oganisms) reacted strongly to the adoption of a new Community law strengthening rules on the labelling and traceability of genetically engineered foodstuffs into the Union (EUROPE of 3 July, pages 8/9/10). The spokesperson for the National Farmers' Federation (NFF) said this is another form of non-tariff barrier and that they would oppose it with force. He argued that it would now be even more difficult to have access for their products to these countries.
